Welcome to Checkers Cairns!
My love affair, passion and continuing learning journey with this lively, sociable and natural Terrier started in 1982.
Since breeding my first litter in 1984, 40 of my Cairns have finished their Canadian Championships. Our puppies have also excelled in obedience, agility, and flyball with their dedicated owners.
We occasionally have litters and our puppies are home rasied and well socialized into our household. All pet puppies are sold CKC registered and do not go to their new homes before 10 weeks of age. Good health, outgoing temperaments, correct typed and structure are all important considerations in my breeding program. We want all our puppies to be much loved as family members and companions.
I am a member of the Cairn Terrier Club of Canada, All Terrier Club
of Alberta, Canadian Kennel Club, Cairn Terrier Club of America.

BREED INFORMATION:
The Cairn Terrier is a confident small terrier with a harsh feeling outer coat and a soft furry undercoat. Regular brushing and grooming is required and yes, they do shed. They are very friendly with people and are active lively dogs requiring daily exercise, and also enjoying quiet times on the couch with their owners. Orginally bred to hunt vermin, they are still eager to chase squirrels, birds and are excellent mousers. They do need a secured back yard and should be kept on leash when out walking. Cairns are alert, intelligent and long-lived, remaining active and playful into their teens. Puppy socialization classes are recommended to help teach you and them basic good behavior.
