Past & Present

I am proud of the achievements of all my dogs I have bred and/or owned. Cairns are very versatile terriers, intelligent, athletic and quick to learn. They can excel in conformations, obedience, flyball, agility, tracking and earth dog. Training sessions are the key, best kept short and always ending on a happy note. Owners need to have a sense of humour as Cairns can decide at anytime they know best, ending the lesson or completely changing what you have taught them.
The most important achievement is that all Cairns are top dogs in their own homes and owners' hearts!

Checkers Best Treblemaker CGN, FMX, SADC, NAC, VMJDC, VAADC

born 2000
(Ch. Greatscot's Whipstocker X Ch. Regina Pacis Harmony Echo)
Gino is owned and trained by Karen Rust. She trains with KAOS Dogsports Inc. in Regina, Sask.

"Gino loves balls, toys, running, jumping and treats so he is a joy to partner with in agility and flyball. He responds very well to positive reinforcement and has a big smile on his face whether tearing down a flyball lane or around an agility course.  2006 was a year of significant accomplishment for Gino.  He achieved the 10,000 point level in flyball and earned the title Flyball Master Excellent (FMX).  He is now #2 in the breed ranking and only the fourth cairn terrier in North America to achieve this title in NAFA history.  Gino also had an outstanding year in agility, achieving 11 qualifying runs in AAC trials.  He earned the Advanced Agility Dog of Canada (VAADC) and the Masters Jumpers Dog of Canada (VMJDC) titles in 2006.  When not competing, Gino spends his time patrolling the yard.  He has successfully chased away every plane that flies overhead (we live near the airport) and every big truck that dares to drive by.  Gino also loves nothing more than a good nap (Mom's lap is best) and puts himself to bed promptly at 10:00 p.m. every night."

Ch. Checkers Honey McCairn

Checkers Forfar's Bridie CD, CDX

1988- 2005

Bridie was owned and trained by Dennis and Pat Reid. She was #1 Obedience Cairn in 1990 and 1992. Also #10 Terrier in Obedience in 1992. Dennis had previously trialed Golden Retrievers and soon found that Cairns required a different approach to training. Once they were a team, high scores followed.
